Navman GPS 4460 Wireless Bluetooth GPS Receiver with SmartST Navigation Software for PalmOS 5.0 HandheldsReviewsI purchased this receiver quite a while ago. The receiver itself works great, syncing to my pda phone via bluetooth with no problems. The software itself however never really worked. It was always creating problems. I actually used mapopolis and tomtom software with it and things were great. Best thing about the device is you can use batteries with it. This was my first GPS receiver, I was amazed by the accuracy this thing can provide. The reason I bought this is that I'm a long time Palm PDA user and have several Palms. I was using T3 with this unit and this combo is "flawless". 1. The installation is straight forward, it's not simple but I can't say too complex. And with a 256mb SD card, I can load enough maps. 2. There's no actual installation required. The only thing is the suction holder for the Palm T3. I actually left the receiver on the dash board without any mounting and it works great, as long as I don't accelerate harshly. 3. The interface is very friendly, although sometime scary. You can choose two different types of voice prompts. Without looking at the screen, you will be alert of direction change or merge. It's quite scary if you drive along quietly. 4. The most important fact to me, it's cheap. I already got the Palm, so by spending the least possible money, I can get good enough result. This thing actually saved me several times from totally lost in the wild. Of course this GPS isn't perfect. 1. The complaint is mainly on the Palm T3 for me about the power. The palm can't hold for even 2 hours. The good thing is the palm could be powered by any USB port, so virtually no money you can get a 12v to USB converter and power the palm. But that's only for use in a car, if you take the combo out to the wild, you have to turn the palm off to save power. 2. The GPS takes quite a long time from cold to lock. When you have to turn the palm off to save power, it became very annoying because every time it's from cold to start. 3. The software is kinda hard when you try to input an address. Overall, I love this thing, I always keep it in the camera bag so when I set out for any trip, I know I won't lost. I bought this back when I had a Palm T3 and it was my first GPS driving aid. As such, it wasn't half bad, though the software was a bit of a pain when entering addresses and sometimes it would pick some rather odd routes for me to follow. On a number of occations I would have to just ignore the damn thing as it tried to route me over some odd bridge that led me on a circuitous route back home. Since I purchased this, I have switched from Palm to PPC, and have been able to avail myself of the TomTom Navigator 5 software, and all I can say is, WOW! The software is much more intuitive than Navman's software and plots routes perfectly as far as I can tell. It also provides much ore information, like exit numbers and stuff like that that Navman was always bad at. I use it with the Navman bluetooth antenna, which I still think is great. It goes for a long time on 3 AAA batteries, which are easy to replace on the road. Quite simply, I love the Navman bluetooth antenna, but I hate the software, and coupled with the fact that they're not supporting palms anymore, I think it really isn't the package to get. But I love the antenna, and will continue to use it quite happily. Its one annoyance is its blinking blue button which can be annoying if you keep it on your front dash at night. Other than that, I love the thing. If I could get this antenna with TomTom's software, I'd be a happy man. (P.S. TomTom's software isn't the end-all-be-all... its TomTom Plus Traffic feature is kind of a joke, but it is better than nothing, which is what Navman provides in the way of traffic info. Garmin is supposed to be better in this respect.) For me, installation wasn't as hard as the other reviewers made it out to be. The GPS unit actually works well, it pairs well with my Tungsten T3 using Bluetooth, and the map displays are all gorgeous. But I am really beginning to hate a few things: 1) finding addresses goes through a really inefficient, awkward menus; 2) there's no way to automatically pull up addresses in your Palm address book; 3) it doesn't automatically restart the GPS connection if you turn the Palm off and back on, and are back in SmartST; 4) it crashes my Palm occasionally, requiring a *hard* restart (thank goodness I have a backup card); 5) the unit holding the Palm tends to unclip from the window suction unit when the road gets bumpy, and it falls off while I'm driving. Oh, did I also mention that my Tungsten T3 slider collapses on a whim, and it runs out of battery after less than a 2 hour trip? (But that's just a problem with a loose slider on the T3 and short battery life; it's not a fault of the NavMan product.) That being said, for its core functionality -- navigation -- it really excels. The directions and maps are visually wonderful (I say this for both the 2D, 3D , and just plain text directions it offers); the voice navigation is right-on; and if you take the time to save your addressess as "favorites" before you start off on your drive, it can be a pleasure to use. The Bluetooth GPS unit, if it has a view of open sky, also gets a satellite fix relatively quickly -- as quick as, say, the built-in GPS devices I've seen in some autos. I bought the receiver/software unit on Amazon for about $160 back when it was on sale. The price has gone up since, and if I were in the market again, I'd take a closer look at TomTom solutions for Palm, or even Mapopolis (though Mapopolis's interface, I hear, isn't quite nearly as nice as that of TomTom or NavMan/SmartST). I ordered this knowing that it wasn't listed as compatible with my Tungsten T5. I tried many times to get the software to work but it didn't. I ended up installing Mapopolis software and have been using it for over 6 months. The Navman works perfectly with Mapopolis on my T5. The receiver is very small and sits on my car dashboard. It is small enough that you could put it in a coat pocket or purse if walking around. Battery life is great - I haven't timed it but I'm sure it is around the 15hrs of active use that other people have found. If you are just an occasional user like I am, this translates into months of use before the battery dies. My only complaint is that they never bothered to update their software to make it compatible with the T5. Average Rating:![]() |

Case Logic GPSP-2 Professional GPS Case for 4.3-Inch Flatscreen GPS NavigatorsReviewsThis Item was a gift for my daughter, she tells me that she loves it. I was disappointed with the size of the case. Although the material is indeed very sturdy, the inner dimensions are too large for the 4.3-inch flat screen GPS to fit snugly. Because of the hard surface, and the fact that the unit moves around so much while inside, I would NOT recommend this particular product for carrying said GPS. I bought a Garmin Nuvi 755T, and although it fits, I am not happy with the way it fits. I will probably end up using this for a different item, and purchasing another case for my Nuvi. I bought it for 4.3" display Garmin 255WT. This is far bulkier than other hard cases for the devices. Useful if you plan on carrying the car adapter cord, or a cellphone with the device, otherwise it very over-sized for the device. This case fits my GPS perfect and keeps it clean. The case is smaller than it looks in the picture. It works good to carry and protect my GPS. I am totally sold on this case for my Nuvi large screen (4.3). It has a loop with a lock-catch that can be used to loop through your belt or belt loop on pants (or a woman can loop and lock around a purse handle etc.). It provides excellent protection inside and out. The inside has a soft material and protects against scratching and the sides, top and bottom are sturdy-durable and prevent your GPS from being damaged, even if it was dropped. I looked at the softer leather ones but in case one of mine was knocked or dropped they just won't prevent damage well. This one will, I have no doubts. Also has enough storage room for a power cord or window or dash suction cup. It's the perfect size and material for what I need when traveling. Average Rating:![]() |

Case Logic GPSP-1 Professional GPS Case for 3.5-Inch FlatscreensReviewsThis is a very nice 3.5" GPS case. Sturdy, good quality, nice looking, provides a lot of protection, has an internal mesh pocket for smart cards, and even comes with a screen cloth. You can't go wrong with this case! The case is really good looking and well made. There is a little netting pouch on the inside to put a cleaning cloth. The case holds the GPS nicely, easy to get in and out. Its a hard case, not a soft neoprene case like I was originally looking for, which means it's a little bulky. But that bulk protects the GPS in case you drop the case. I would say overall its a good item and for the money is a great value. I bought the Garmin for Xmas for my daughter; she loves it. She calls me every week to thank me for buying the Garmin for her. She use to always call me for directions, now she does not because of the Garmin. Very easy to use, reliable, and efficient. This case is sweet - it fits my Nuvi 275T like a glove and is robust enought to protect but also small enough to slip in a large jacket pocket and easily in a carry on bag or purse. The aesthetic is pleasing with a perforated leather strip with brushed logo. The case material is very grippy which was a great thing in the frozen climes that I recently visited. The included micro fiber cloth reduced my worries about the GPS screen getting scratched and the elasticized netting divider inside meant that I could also the traffic data antenna in there. Well Done, Case Logic! This case is a good fit for my Garmin 3.5" GPS. It offers much better protection than the leather case that came with my other Garmin GPS. It is compact and easy to carry.
