I've been looking at the comparative Casio watch for years, but never could justify $200 - $300 for a watch. Before Christmas I saw the La Crosse XG-55 in a sporting magazine for about $80 and figured I could find one on the internet even cheaper. I requested one from the kids (Christmas gift# and got it about a week after Christmas. After figuring out how to use it, I love it. I was mostly interested in the barometer function, but since I like gadgets, I play with the altimeter all the time also. A big plus that I haven't seen in any other watch is the count down timer. I like slow cooking on the grill and have already used it for a 3 hour check on some ribs. I can set the chronograph to start timing, and run the count down timer for a 3 hour check at the same time. The thermometer is dead-on accurate #off the wrist of course) and I set the barometer to the weather channel the first day I got it and it stays within .01 of the actual pressure and I haven't had to re-set it since. The altimeter is very accurate if you know how one works. I set some landmarks with google maps and went for a drive and the watch read within 10 feet of what it should have. You have to re-calibrate the altimeter often though because it works off air pressure - when the barometric pressure changes, so will the displayed altitude, just like an altimeter in an airplane that works off barometric pressure. I will try and keep it dry since I've read other posts that say the water resistant feature is misleading. If something does happen to it I will definately have to get another one. For the price, its an amazing product.

I bought this watch mainly for the altimeter function. It works quite well, as well as can be expected for any barometric altimeter. That means you need the actual altitude now and then so you can correct for barometric pressure changes. The watch is very sensitive to altitude changes down to individual feet. Getting used to accessing the different settings can take time and patience. The watch comes with a DVD to help you with that. My main gripe is the display contrast. The background color of the display area is so dark that it's hard to read the numbers. If you don't have perfect vision and use the watch anywhere but outdoors in bright light, seeing the display is difficult. Adjusting the contrast is no help. Look at the picture of the watch here on Amazon and you'll see just how dark the display background is. I've noticed other watches people are wearing, and some of them can be read from five or six feet away because the background is light or white. The dark background on this La Crosse is simply bad engineering. If I had it to do over again, I wouldn't buy this watch. If you plan on using it indoors and don't carry a flashlight around with you, I'd advise you not to buy it, either.

well i bought it for my husband for xmas 09 so far good the price compared to store bought was FANTASTIC.He hasnt had it long enough to tell if its gonna give him problems-I am worried something will happen and I need to return it,then what? this is my first amazon purchase.

I have enjoyed this Christmas gift. I had thought it was also a satelite watch like the other La Crosse products. The ads never said that, I just made that assumption. It is working great and has many features. I enjoy it.

I have a few of these type watches and this one is the best so far. Light weight and easy to use.

Straight away I'll admit to my bias: I've been a fan of Solas since their first album. Therefore, you may interpret my review with a grain of salt. However, you will not be disappointed in the least by Solas' latest CD. How can such a small profile band create such a stellar sound? How do they craft such wonderful interpretations of established songs? How do they avoid the pitfall of "cookie-cutter formulaic music" which lies in wait to trip up every other musical group? If you want to hear genuine Celtic-flavored music that is either light as a butterfly or strong enough to get your foot tapping you simply cannot miss with Solas. These folks are exceptional musicians and they ply their trade extraordinairly well.

Another amazing release from one of the worlds greatest Celtic/folk bands! I highly recommend it.

Simply superb! After a long time found a movie score so rich, lush, deep and beautiful. The composition is a vast canvas like the wilderness of the story and the warm melody added with the orchestration only heightens the mood. I will recommend it to everyone. It will haunt you long after you listen the album.

What an excellent cd. The music is beautifully haunting and keeps us very entertained. We had seen the movie a long time ago and recently got a chance to see it again. The composer has created a timeless piece of music that carries the listener to another time and place.

I was lucky enough to actually safari in Africa in the late 80's. With this CD I can close my eyes and remember the wonderful journey. Of course the movie provided visual benefits as well.

This movie is a classic and one never tires of the music. Took and amazing trip through Eastern Africa and visited areas where the movie was filmed.

Of course you must have liked the movie to enjoy this CD. My favorite classical music station played cuts from this CD and so I purchased it. Most enjoyable.

An excellent paring is Karan Casey and John Doyle. However - beware - all is not equal! John takes the vocals on only 3 of the 12 songs (Sally Grier, Madam I'm A Darling, The Shipyard Slips). Karan takes the vocals on 7 and they duet on two. Not to comment negatively on Karan's singing (which is, as always, first rate) but for those John Doyle fans out there, you will probably feel short-changed here. All told, the 12-song selection is excellent and John's guitar playing remains the best there is. With the one proviso, as mentioned, this is a recommended album.

Phenomenal! Really great duo. I remember when they performed with the band Solas so this is a really exciting and long awaited CD. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

I'm impressed with the quality of this powerstrip. Installation was a snap and it was easy to mount to the underside of my workbench. So far, I've experienced no problems, all outlets have power, and I expect the unit will continue to perform problem-free.

Finally an outlet strip designed for the garage. It works fine and can be mounted horizontal or vertical. Great product.

Excellent quality and price. It seems sturdy and I love the long cord. The on/off switch has a plastic cover that is a nice feature. This cover prevents you from accidentally turning the strip on or off. The cover should be easily removable however if you prefer ease of operation. The outlets of course are modern three prong and polarized . For my application(workbench outlets) I would like to have had a longer strip with fewer outlets but I can't hold that against this product. I am tempted to get another one for the computer room where it would be ideal. My only complaint is the mounting screws seemed to be low quality as one of the heads snapped off even though I had drilled a pilot hole. I was screwing into oak.

I purchased this strip to be mounted upside down under an IKEA Jerker desk (now discontinued). The clips are screwed into an extruded aluminum cross beam. With the weight of the AC converter bricks, they obviously won't stay in upside down. I have them zip-tied in place and the plugs are spaced apart far enough that I've not run into any crowding issues. I'd imagine many or larger power converters could be extended to the strip so you don't crowd them. With all but 2 ports occupied, the clips are strong enough to hold everything in upside down for nearly a year now. Quality is sound and I'd recommend this to anyone needing one.

The major drawback to this item is that the outlets are mounted 90° from where they should be. As almost all wall warts plug in with the cord between the blades of the plug, that means when plugged into this strip the cords are in-line with the strip instead of at right angles to it as they should be. For this reason, even though the outlets are wide apart the cord still blocks the next outlet in line so I can only use half of them.
